When it comes to meeting your fitness goals you want to be able to set your body up for success. How do we do this? By getting proper rest, hitting your workouts hard, and nourishing your body with quality nutrients. But where does CBD come into play?
CBD (cannabidoil) has been a trending topic with testimonials from individuals finding relief in anything from pain to anxiety. There are many studies that have been done to show that CBD can aide in inflammation, indirectly affect pain receptors, supports quality sleep and balances chemicals in the brain. In a nut shell, CBD acts as your body’s overly-school-spirited cheerleader encouraging the body to use its natural resources in order to reach homeostasis. Also known as your body’s overall BALANCE.
Don’t get CBD confused with its THC relative. CBD doesn’t have the “high” sensation that THC is responsible for. CBD works behind the scenes within your body.
“Wait. Something that has potential benefits but doesn’t make you high? Tell me more.” Thats what I said and so did others including professional athletes.
Athletes from all over are connecting the dots on how CBD and these claimed benefits can tie into their physical lifestyle. David Ahrens a NFL linebacker stated
“I enjoyed a 10-year playing career [from 1981 to 1990]. I have taken more pain pills in that time than most people have in their lifetime. I wish I had known about the benefits of CBD much earlier,”
Nate Diaz a world known mixed martial arts fighter responded to a reporter during an interview
“It’s CBD. It helps with the healing process and inflammation and stuff like that. So you wanna get these for before, after the fight, training. It’ll make your life a better place.”
Lets dive in to how CBD can support a fitness journey.
CBD can enhance recovery.
As mentioned previously, CBD supports quality sleep. Being well-rested allows for your body to work at an optimal level. In the recovery process having quality sleep enables your body to repair itself while you aren’t doing a whole lot of moving around. CBD and its sleep support allow athletes and individuals to experience deeper REM cycles while feeling refreshed when they wake up. This results in a faster recovery so individuals are able to go back to the gym at a faster rate.
CBD also suppresses the main contributors to inflammation, swelling, and soreness potentially protecting muscle cells for growth. It has potential to relieve the pain and soreness of joints and muscles which shows up about 24-48 hours after a workout. Ditch the ibuprofen and say hello to CBD.
CBD can improve performance.
CBD has been shown to inhibit the body’s absorption of anandamide, a fancy word that is associated with pain regulation. CBD goes beyond surface symptoms to quiet overactive pain receptors in the brain. This allows the individual to concentrate more on the workout and less on preconditioned pain points.
Some individuals even swear by CBD to help them focus during their workouts.
Whether you are just getting into a workout routine or you are an experienced athlete, CBD has the potential to benefit your journey. CBD as a whole is still being studied and great strides have been made in learning about its benefits, however, there is much more research to be done. Remember not all CBD is created equal. Talk to your doctor and do your research to find HIGH-QUALITY products to incorporate in your daily routine.
